The early achievements of Maureen FitzSimons in the arts of performing, and which are now known as Maureen O'Hara, would certainly be a qualifier for her place in the "child prodigy" category. It was an innate characteristic for a girl of Irish heritage, who was surrounded in her early years by talented relatives and parents. Maureen entered this loving haven within Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a part of the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen was a natural athlete and was a fan of tough sporting games. Her passion was coupled with an unnatural talent for performing. She was awarded nearly every Feis Award for Theatre and Drama the country could give. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dreams of classical theater as well as singing opera.
